João Nuno Calvão
Chair
João is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (FDUC). He is Vice-Director of the Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra (since October 2018), Vice-President of the Association of European Studies of Coimbra (Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra) since February 2017, and Executive Director of the Legal Institute of Communication of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (since November 2015). He is a member of the jury panels for oral examinations at the Centre for Judicial Studies (CEJ);
João is teaching staff member of several degrees and Postgraduate courses offered by Institutes of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Centro de Estudos de Direito da Regulação e da Concorrência, Instituto Jurídico da Comunicação, Instituto de Direito da Banca, da Bolsa e dos Seguros, Centro do Direito dos Contratos e do Consumo, Associação de Estudos Europeus de Coimbra ), among other Universities, e.g. Universidade Católica;
He holds a PhD in European Union Law from FDUC (Unanimously approved with distinction and praise; 2015), a MSc in European Union Law from FDUC (Unanimously Approved with 18 in 20) 2007); and a BA in Law from FDUC (17 in 20 GPA. He is the winner winner of several student awards, including the Doutor Manuel de Andrade Prize, awarded to the best student of the 1995/2000 course.
Previously, João was Legal Advisor of the Portuguese Notary Association (2015/2017 and 2007/2009), Deputy to the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs (2014/2015), Deputy to the Deputy Minister and Regional Development (2013/2014), Visiting researcher at the European University Institute (2011), Lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Macao from 2002 to 2004.
